The Coffeehouse Writing
One Day Retreats
Where are the retreats held?
Mercure Hotel Hull.Grange Park Lane
The Mercure Hotel Hull is fully wheelchair friendly and there is plenty of parking for everyone!
What do we do?
Once you have booked your place, you will be sent a workbook asking about your intentions. This is for your use, for you think about what you could achieve in a full day writing retreat without distractions.
On the day you will arrive just before 9am and be greeted with a tea, coffee and juice, along with a selection of fresh warm Danish pastries. Yum! What better way to start your morning.
Once you take your chair, we put a list of your intentions up for you to see (if you want to share). These might be word count, page count etc.
Then you sit down and write. There will be refreshments available throughout the day for you to help yourself to.
We will have a break for a welcome hot lunch (please advise of any food allergies, intolerances or preferences on booking), a quick stretch outside if you want, then back to the desk for more writing.
Another break mid-afternoon, then writing until we finish at 5pm.
There will be plenty of paper and spare pens/ pencils for those who prefer free hand, and lots of places to charge your laptops too!
I’m not sure it’s for me.
That’s absolutely fine too! If you are interested but unsure, then email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll talk through what is best for you. Common concerns include:
Not having enough to write about.
As a writer I can say this with confidence, once you start you will be struggling to stop! But don’t worry. As a writing coach, I will make sure there is a selection of writing prompts ready for you, covering different elements and genres of writing, as well as being happy to have a chat with you over anything you are stuck on.
Writing with a group of strangers.
Again, you are not alone, everyone here is a writer just like you and will be feeling the same. You are amongst new friends. The retreats are small, and there is no push to socialise during the breaks. The Mercure Hotel Hull, has some lovely grounds for you to have a wander round and plenty of corners to grab a quiet coffee in solitude.
What if I can’t make it?
In all instances please let me know as soon as possible. If more than two weeks in advance then I can offer a full refund or a booking on the next event. After that date them I’m really sorry, how about you gift your place to a friend or family member who also writes or if there is a waiting list can we resell it.
